Personality:

Josh can come across as a pretty rude person, especially when you first meet him. He’s usually pretty damn sarcastic, and prone to saying things without thought to how they really sound to others. When he first meets Sally he pretty much tells her to leave, despite just hearing that she’s dead and (currently) physically unable to go anywhere outside of the house. Sarcasm and rude remarks are often a way of dealing with things that upset or frustrate him, though in general he's a pretty sarcastic guy. Sarcastic and extremely socially awkward. Besides being rude, even when trying to just be nice to someone on a first meeting or something he can be kind of embarrassing. From terrible accents to bad jokes, Josh just... isn't the best around people he doesn't know very well. He can appear sort of self absorbed at times too, especially since finding out he's a werewolf. He is definitely sympathetic, and empathetic, to others but on occasion getting wrapped up in his werewolf problems leaves him with a single focused mind.

The whole werewolf thing is a huge part of Josh, and it creates a lot of inner conflict for him. Josh was going to be a doctor before he got scratched and became a werewolf, and though much of that decision was the influence of his parents, it's also because he's always wanted to help others. Then suddenly, he's a "monster", and completely drops all of those hopes, settling for far less. There's a lot of conflict between wanting to help people and being a wolf, a creature that hurts others without a thought. Afraid that he'll do more harm than good, Josh tends to try and shut himself away from people. It doesn't always work though, and he's very close with Aidan, Sally, Nora and his sister Emily. And after letting people in, Josh can be very sweet, insightful and sympathetic to those people he cares for. He's also sometimes still rude and sarcastic, of course, especially when panicked, but that's Josh for you.

He’ll do anything for the people he loves though, no question. At the canon point I'm taking Josh from he’s risking his life outright because there’s a chance that Nora (the woman he's pretty in love with) will get to be free of her own wolf, after he scratched her by accident and turned her. He has to kill his own maker to do it – a man who has a family, a life that Josh doesn't have, can't have, and doesn't really believe he deserves. Josh has never done anything like that before - he's always done everything possible to stop himself from hurting others, and it's very rare he'd hurt anyone without the wolf's influence - so this really goes against his instincts. For a chance at Nora (and himself) being free of the wolf though, he knows he has to try.

Just as he's capable of sacrificing others for the people he loves, he'll run the risk of sacrificing himself as well. He was willing to fight a very strong vampire, Bishop, on the night of the full moon, knowing that it was possible he'd die in the process, if it meant keeping Aidan from fighting him himself. (Things didn't quite work out like that, but he was definitely going to do it if he'd got the chance). He'll sacrifice things in other ways too. For example, when Josh found out he was a werewolf, he immediately ran. He left his family, his fiancé, his whole life behind. More than anything else, he did it to protect them – terrified of what he had become and of hurting someone.

Josh has a tendency to put high expectations on people, but no one more than himself. As much as it was fear for hurting someone, leaving his family for a new life was also a small part shame. He's been so used to having control. He knew where he was heading, he knew what he wanted - to be doctor, married to Julia - and he had control of his life before. Transforming into a huge, terrifying wolf once a month changed everything about that. Suddenly he can neither control nor really predict himself entirely, and it was one of the things that scared him most. Josh likes to have control - he likes to have things orderly and in their place, so to speak - but he in particular, it seems he feels he needs self-control.

Josh tends to blame himself a lot of the time. He's full of guilt and self hate for all manner of things. For his ex-fiancée, Julia's, death. For Nora being a wolf. For his parent's separation (they separated just as he left after all). He hates his wolf and as a result hates a big part of himself.

To sum up, Josh is a sweet, if social inept, occasionally rude and sarcastic mess of wolf issues. He tries to keep people out, but usually fails - he'll always put others before himself, and is even willing to go against the things he believes in for those he loves. At his heart, Josh is just a man trying to do good when he really believes he's a monster and more capable of hurting others.

Items on your character at canon point: The clothes on his back + star of David necklace.

Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses: Well, once a month at the full moon, Josh (very painfully) transforms into a rather large and ugly wolf. This comes with all the strengths and weaknesses of being a wolf – he’s stronger, he hunts to kill and eat any living creature in sight, and is quite capable of taking down any large animal, including humans. He has no control of himself in his wolf form, and no memory of what he did the following day. He is stronger a few days before the full moon, and has better eyesight and sense of smell. He has a weakness for silver – human or wolf form, it can kill him.

Besides the night of the full moon and the few days before, Josh is a regular human with the same weaknesses and vulnerabilities that being human brings - though he is now capable of seeing ghosts in his canon, while others can't.

Also, he's a pretty good cook and having been training to be a doctor, he's got some good medical knowledge.

Uh, hi. So, I'm Josh, I'm one of the new – prisoners here, I guess.

Look, I know that— well, I hear even the grocery store in this place isn't exactly known for being without fire or zombies or disease or… tentacle kittens, but just – out of curiosity. Do many people go into the woods at night? It seems pretty dangerous, right?

[Josh's arms cross over his chest and he looks pretty uncomfortable pointing this out. Still he’s got to at least try and gather whether it’d be wise or not to turn in those woods.]

I mean, more dangerous than staying in one of those crumbling buildings all night playing Go Fish and hoping you don’t get soul sucked by a monster, so, ah… I was just making sure, I guess. No one hunts at night, or goes on… midnight nature walks?

Right? 'Cause you shouldn't.

[Tonight especially? It’d be a really good idea not to.

Seriously, please don’t.
